Clarendon Residential
Key Actions for Financial Year 2007

Action Achieved Comment
Establish a Project Control Group (PCG) to oversee performance against sustainability strategy. Sustainability performance incorporated into fortnightly Clarendon PCG meetings.
Introduce home-buyer education initiatives. Your Home Buyer's Guide in production. To be followed by promotion and education with sales and marketing staff.
Implement findings of more rigorous market research focussed on how people live in the houses we build. New product range being developed in Victoria, new house designs being developed in NSW.
Broaden 3rd party research collaborations so all developments share and benefit from findings. Research undertaken with ARIES at Macquarie University into barriers and opportunities to source more sustainable concrete.
Roll-out SH&E Management Plan to all Clarendon Residential activities.
Design in automatic lighting and air conditioning controls to minimise energy wastage in display homes. All lighting in new display homes is now energy efficient. Design of other mechanisms for energy and water efficiency underway.
Develop Urban Design Guidelines which include minimum sustainability standards for all developments/estates. It was decided not to proceed with the preparation of Urban Design Guidelines on the grounds that:
  • there are significantly different regulatory requirements in each state and local government area;
  • urban design practice is changing very fast and we want to be able to promote good practice in each development;
  • urban design is highly dependent on the context (e.g. typography, waterways, surrounding development) and Clarendon is only currently designing approximately one development in each state every year.
Develop strategy for social sustainability. Options for affordable housing on sites in NSW and Queensland have been explored, but a broader social sustainability strategy is needed.
Review procurement tenders and further upgrade sustainability considerations. Significant work done to review standard specifications. More initiatives planned for this area.
Develop Housing Design Guidelines which include minimum sustainability specifications and standards for all housing. Review undertaken of standard specifications for Clarendon Homes in Victoria and NSW and upgrades made where possible. New brief for Housing Designers in progress.
Train designers in sustainable design. Training being developed and will be rolled out to all states in 2007/08.
