Suppliers and Contractors
As a large purchaser of goods and services, Investa has the opportunity to use its purchasing power to influence supply chains in the property sector.
Summary of Supplier Applications
Over the reporting period some 468 preferred supplier applications were submitted. We observed a significant increase in the quality of safety and environmental documentation supporting applications for preferred supplier status during the year. There was a drop in the number of applications processed reflecting a growing preference to continue relationships with suppliers already on the list. We consider this to be a positive sign.
Working with Suppliers
We are currently working with our suppliers on a range of health, safety and wellbeing issues including eliminating E1 board in our home construction, reducing the use of standard MDF in our kitchens and introducing lower VOC paints as standard in Clarendon homes. Next year we aim to report in detail on this work. Rodney Wynyard from Taubmans said, "We were prompted by Investa to consider moving towards lower VOC paints. Now, a year later, we are about to change our standard range to contain fewer VOC emissions. Investa and Clarendon have significant roles in encouraging suppliers to consider sustainability and we have responded to their challenge."
Concrete Project
We are currently participating in a 'Sustainability in Supply Chains' project being run by Macquarie University's 'Australian Research Initiative on Education for Sustainability' (ARIES). Together with Landcom, Stockland and Bovis Lend Lease we are exploring the barriers and opportunities to more sustainable concrete production and use.
